I was standing on the corner, waiting for the light to change
When I felt him tap my shoulder right before I heard him say
Hey Mr. I was wondering could you spare a couple bucks
For a cold and hungry brother a little down on his luck,

I handed him and 5 and said I’d like to give you more
But I’m thinking that a hot meal isn’t what you want it for
He looked me in the eye said I know what you think,
But I don’t do drugs and it’s been months since I’ve had a drink.

If life’s a road,
Its taking me some places I never thought I’d go
But I believe I keep on getting closer to where I’m s’posed to be
I know eventually,
Life’s got something good for me

I stood there staring at him and feeling sorry and ashamed,
Wondering how someone with nothing could still have so much faith
He shook my hand and thanked me so humble and sincere that
I couldn’t help but ask myself who’s the beggar here?

If life’s a road,
Its taking me some places I never thought I’d go
But I believe I keep on getting closer to where I’m s’posed to be
I know eventually,
Life’s got something good for me

If life’s a road,
Its taking me some places I never thought I’d go
Now I can see I’m still not getting closer to being the man I want to be
I pray eventually,
Life’s got something good for me
