The Gardener

de Sarah Sparks

I saw your mercy but mercy means I'm in need
And it's a bitter taste to someone who can't stand the thought of something free
And I didn't like what reason demanded see
For the sacrifice in itself implies that I can't do anything

But I looked to my hands and I tried to do good
But all that I had was not enough

All of my good, he gave me new eyes to see
Trying to wash my skin of the infection
With my hands themselves diseased

All I had done with fingers worked down to bone
What use is a sacrament if the body's dead?
Guilt cannot for guilt atone

When I look to my hands and tried to do good
All I had is not enough

Here looking up, empty and at your feet
It is a humbling place now to find your gaze
'Cause I see where that puts me

To cross the gap, it was you who came to me
For these hands crucified are the only kind
That can give an offering

So I look to your hands and count on the blood
It's all that I have and it's enough
It’s all I have and it’s enough
