The Way You Do The Things You Do

de Mel McDaniel

I can still see mama stooped around those cotton stocks
When she picked one she picked a hundred bales
Me and all my brothers would take time about
Dragging mama's sack up to the scales
While my little sister slept in a peaceful sleep
Mama laid her in a trailer shade
Daddy was in Denville working for the railroad
When he was coming home we couldn't wait

These are just some things I want to sing about
Mem'ries I can't live without
Diamonds buried deep down in my mind
Lord thoughts I can't quit thinking
A fountain I'll keep drinking from
And a taste that's gettin' sweeter all the time

[ harmonica ]
I remember thinking time was grand when mother's lived
Where brothers went to catch a bus or train
Oh a treasured thought is daddy grinnin' ear to ear
Everytime we'd hear the old Chug Wagon Gang
Among the many things I can't forget about
Seeing mama whisper silent prayer
I turned and left too slowly without a ever knowing
There was ever anybody there

These are just some things I want to sing about...
These are just some things I want to sing about...
